Olympic Stadium and Chinese fashion

Yesterday Ashley and I went to the Olympic Stadium area to be mega-tourists and take pictures in front of the bird’s nest. Personally, I love the Olympics and couldn’t get enough of it. I heard from Ashley who heard from Tamara, however, that they might be tearing down the whole stadium and the cube because it costs too much for electricity? I really hope that is not the case- that would be super sad. The bird’s nest is really neat.
Afterwards, Ashley and I had dinner at this awesome Korean restaurant near Beida. China definitely missed the memo on having good food, because Korean food is amazing. Especially in Asia Korean food. Also, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, Indian… just about every Asian country except China has great food.
One of the things China did not miss the memo on though is having a crazy fashion scene. The fashions here are completely off the wall by American standards, but I think it is really cool. I think if I were to move here semi-permanently, it would be fun to buy weird eclectic clothing and shoes and have it be totally normal to wear out. For example, here you will see young people wearing crazy plaid shorts, suspenders, bright pink shirt with a huge bow on the front, and all with electric yellow high top sneakers. Girls wear everything from prom dresses and 4 inch stilettos to jumpers/overalls and sailor hats. Men can be seen bedazzled with glittery t-shirts, snakeskin boots, rhinestone covered adidas sneakers, and the like. It’s like Prince meets Urban Outfitters meets Little-girls-in-Easter-Sunday-dresses meets Popeye over here. Crazy pants.
